Therapy Benefits

Massage

Studies have demonstrated that massage is an effective treatment for reducing stress, anxiety, depression, pain and muscle tension.

In 2008, a study with 263 volunteers demonstrated a reduction in blood pressure and heart rate after one treatment of massage, which is equivalent to taking blood pressure medication for life!

Another study with 8 women showed that regular massage treatment can reduce high blood pressure and inflammation within the body and improve cardiovascular function. (mindbodygreen)

Many benefits of sports massage include increased flexibility, minimal m muscle tension, improved range of movement, scar tissue reduction and accelerated recovery from fatigue and injury. Regular conditioning treatment can also help prevent injury and maintain your body's physical health.

The treatment involves careful investigation to locate the point of pain or discomfort and the treatment is administered according to the individuals threshold of pain.

Many of my clients were apprehensive to book a sports massage as they are known to be uncomfortable. However, I have adapted my treatment to cater for the individual's tolerance to ensure a comfortable but effective treatment.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is very popular with athletes as it aids faster recovery from fatigue and helps to relieve muscle spasms. It is not only beneficial to athletes, as it has many other benefits which include encouraged blood flow, treatment for aches and pains, looser muscles, treatment for migraines, rheumatism, sedate the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure) and even cellulite.

Toxins can be released from the body, blockages can be cleared and veins and arteries can be refreshed. This treatment is also valuable for the lungs, and can clear congestion from a common cold or help to control a person's asthma.

This treatment is not painful, the cups will be placed on your skin, suction from a handheld pump will raise your skin into the cup. It will be combined with a deep tissue massage to ensure maximum tension is released. Depending on how much tension your body has in the areas under the cups, you may be left with non painful redness which will only last a few days.

Kinesiology taping

Kinesiology tape is placed on the skin in certain positions depending on what it is being used for, which slightly lifts the skin using it's elasticity which reduces pressure and allows your lymphatic and venous drainage systems to drain any swollen or bruised tissue than without the tape. It can also assist in the removal of byproducts like lactic acid, so overused muscles and fatigue can be prevented or treated as the enhanced circulation helps to prevent or relieve spasms and cramps.

The tape doesn't restrict any range of movement, so it's perfect for treating aches and pains while you go about your daily activities. The most important benefit is, depending on how it is applied, kinesiology tape can prevent either over stretching or over-contraction of injured muscles, ligaments and tendons. When combined with its pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, this can allow you to continue training, competing or just getting through everyday life with reduced pain as your injuries heal. The tape can be worn between 3-5 days.
